Signing up, now with bonus gi!
I had a thing tonight so I couldn’t attend class, but I stopped by before class started to sign a contract. The school offers several contract options. The six-month contract was my original choice, but if I signed up for a full year, it’d be cheaper. Plus the first ten people to sign a year-long contract with the school get their rate locked in for life. I’m all about bargains, so I signed the contract.
I am now committed to Ground Control Kansas City for a year. It’s a little scary but I’m excited about what I’ll learn this year. I can’t even imagine how much I’ll have progressed by next February.
While I filled out the paperwork, we chatted about getting more female students. Jonathan hopes his wife will be able to come soon. (I do too; it would be nice to have someone my size around.) My friend the Gumby Ninja might try it out when she’s finished physical therapy on her knee; she has a purple belt in traditional Japanese JJ (Mizu Ryu) and would probably pick up BJJ pretty quickly.
Jonathan also had a sign-up bonus for me: a Hunter Fightwear gi that his wife only wore once or twice. It fits me well and feels light—about half the weight of my judo gi—which will be nice in summer. I kind of wish I hadn’t ordered that other gi off of eBay yesterday, but if there’s one thing I’ve gathered from my BJJ research, it’s that you can never have too many gis.
